Tandem has partnered with Focus Ireland for three years. As a charity, Focus Ireland aims to stem the tide of homelessness by stopping people from becoming homeless, and where possible, providing housing for those that need it.
On 29th and 30thof July, Team Tandem set to work undertaking a garden makeover on a Focus Ireland property in Cork. The remit for the project was to provide a low-maintenance, outdoor living space for the family to enjoy.
The work commenced with the removal of all of the grass area in both the front and back gardens. A raised flower bed was constructed from wooden railway sleepers to provide a seating area around an existing patio. Other work involved cleaning, painting walls, painting fences, hauling heavy wheelbarrows, weeding, planting, hedge clipping, spreading gravel and bark, installing a washing line, fixing a fence in place and when all was done, power-washing the pavements. The volunteers taking part really ‘dug’ deep to get everything completed within two days.
Focus Ireland have informed us that the family are thrilled with the results of the project.
Many thanks to Peter Dowdall (The Irish Gardener) for his support on this project and his expertise in designing the garden. Our thanks also to the Tandem volunteers for all of their hard work on the project.
