Waterford Greenway

On Saturday, 13th May 2023, Tandem Project Management Ltd.‘s Thrive committee arranged a Waterford Greenway cycle.  Tandem personnel, family and friends enjoyed the cycle from Dungarvan to Kilmacthomas and back, 44kms in all.

The views were made spectacular by some glorious sunshine for our entire route.  Outside of Dungarvan, there were views over Clonea Beach with Helvick Head on the other side of the bay. Once we turned away from the coast there were some sheltered areas of track, but mostly open countryside with views of the Comeragh Mountains to the North. The group stopped for a fantastic lunch in the Coach House, Kilmacthomas.

Galtee More Hike

On 15th April, guided by Julie Reeves Walking, the Tandem hikers set off from Kings Yard near Mitchelstown to conquer Galtee Mor. For some, it was almost in their backyard, they had scaled it many times, for others it was the first time.

The day was bright and clear. The group climbed the southern slope, taking in the view of the golden vale below and beyond to the Knockmealdown Mountains. The route takes in a series of three ridges, each ridge offering a break before pushing forward to the next. Prior to the last stretch, a steep slope to the summit, Julie advised extra layers as, even on a calm day, there’s always wind at the summit.

The wind at the summit was incredible, it was so strong it would nearly knock you over. Julie found a spot in the lea of the wind, now looking towards the Northwest. It was such a clear day, the water of the River Shannon could be seen glistening in the far distance. A spectacular spot for lunch!

Heading down provided alternative views, river crossings, and a walk through the forest. It was a great day spent with colleagues and friends.

Alexion Safety Day

Tandem was delighted to host a safety day for our ongoing projects at Alexion in April 2023.

The guest speaker, professional boxer Eric Donovan, delivered an insightful story of overcoming challenges, determination, and reframing your viewpoint when faced with adversity. Eric’s messages of wellbeing and resilience were both grounded and inspirational.

STEPS Schools Visit 2022

During November, Tandem’s Engineers participated in the Engineers Ireland – STEPS Young Engineers Award Programme. The STEPS Young Engineers Award encourages 3rd and 4th class pupils to explore the world of engineering by developing a project that would help to improve their local community. Students form an engineering team and take on the challenge of using an engineering approach to find solutions.

Tandem’s engineers delivered virtual and in-person presentations to participating classes outlining what it is like to work as an engineer, the students then had the opportunity to showcase their projects and to receive feedback.

For our engineers, the experience delivered an opportunity to reflect on why they entered the engineering profession, they learned how to communicate engineering in a relatable way to children, and it opened their eyes to the creativity, imagination and the inquisitiveness that children have about engineering. Our engineers encouraged, guided and commended the children for their projects and on their teamwork.

Thanks to Engineers Ireland STEPS for delivering this STEM initiative in primary schools nationwide. Tandem wishes all of the participating schools the very best of luck in the Young Engineers Award competition!
